You will be treated to a show by the ever-entertaining and mischievous dolphins, while some of the world's oldest and largest sea creatures, such as the humpback and blue whales, will glide past you as you embark on a whale/ dolphin watching excursion off the southern, eastern, or western coasts of Sri Lanka. Dondra Point (which is accessible from Galle, Hikkaduwa, and Mirissa) and Trincomalee are the best places to go whale watching, while the sea around Kalpitiya is teeming with dolphins and is a great place to go dolphin watching.

The Sri Lanka Coast Guards have increased their vigilance in monitoring the implementation of the Sea Mammals Observation, Regulation, and Control Regulations, in light of the fact that the whale watching season in Mirissa is in full swing and that a large number of local and foreign tourists are congregating in the Mirissa harbor.

Members of the Rohana Coast Guard post have been monitoring whale and dolphin watching operations in Mirissa since last year in order to guarantee that the Regulations are followed by boat operators and tourists participating in whale watching activities. Aside from that, the coast guards ensure that the boat operators, crew members, and passengers adhere to all safety procedures and regulations before and throughout their observation tour.
