Sri Lanka's Uva and Sabaragamuwa provinces share this Udawalawe National Park. As a result of the construction of the Udawalawe Reservoir on the Walawe River, many wild animals were forced to flee their natural environment. As of the year 1972, this reserve has a total size of 30,821 hectares. In fact, it is the third most popular tourist destination in the country.
Other than elephants, Udawalawe is well-known for its leopards and other bird species. The leopard population in this National Park is thought to be as low as 10, and as a result, sightings are extremely rare.

Because of the Udawalawe Reservoir, Sri Lankan elephants are in abundance. They rely heavily on it for their water supply. Elephant sightings are virtually certain due to the large population of 500-700 elephants.

Udawalawe is a kaleidoscope of cultures. There are 184 birds, 33 reptiles, 43 mammals, and 135 different kinds of butterflies in the area. Water buffaloes, wild boars, crocodiles, peacocks, and spotted deer are other possible sightings in addition to leopards and elephants.
